During the time that Brittany Maynard was dying in Portland, OR, many other things were going on in the world. In Portland, OR, they actually included an article in their local newspaper about Brittany Maynard and how her friends and family were saying goodbye to her as they knew it was her final weeks. Also at this time, there was a midterm election for House and Senate representatives. The voter turnout in Portland was nearly 70%. Around this time, it was confirmed that after the election, Republicans outweighed democrats in the Congress. Oregon, Alaska, and Washington DC legalized marijuana in this same election. At a UN meeting, a decree about climate change was released, and in Egypt, 8 men were jailed for attending and videotaping a gay wedding. Besides the first article, none of these articles have much to do with the subject of Brittany Maynard's death.
